About CHRT

Evaluating the impact of a peer support group for mothers

January 2023 – June 2024
Client(s): Children of the Rising Sun
Funder: Max & Marjorie Fisher Foundation
Staff: Melissa Riba
Need:

The Children of the Rising Sun Early Childhood Institute in Detroit, MI recently launched a mental health and wellness peer support group for mothers of young children. The pilot program, which will begin in the fall of 2023, will engage participants in multiple sessions to build confidence in parenting abilities, self-efficacy, and other skills.

CHRT’s role:

CHRT will evaluate the effects of the Peer Support Group for Mothers of Young Children Pilot Program. CHRT will field surveys to assess areas of impact for program participants on measures such as depression/anxiety, self-efficacy, self-reported well-being, confidence in parenting abilities, and understanding of key elements of the program.

Additionally, CHRT will conduct session evaluations to get specific information to help understand participant experience, areas for improvement, and strengths of each session. This will provide regular feedback and a mechanism for program improvements and adjustments.

Lastly, CHRT will host four group interviews at two points of the program: during the final session and at program completion. The groups will provide an opportunity for participants to reflect on the program and provide insights into its impact on them and their families, as well as to offer perspective on the program aspects they valued most and areas for change in program content or implementation.
