Dr. Bryant Oliphant

Dr. Bryant Oliphant, MD, MBA, MSc is an orthopaedic trauma surgeon and health services researcher. He practices clinically at Detroit Receiving Hospital and is an Associate Professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Wayne State University. He is also a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Michigan.

Dr. Oliphant’s research is supported by the National Institutes of Health and focuses on identifying trauma center and trauma system characteristics that drive the quality, cost, and efficiency of care. His work integrates multiple data sources to track patients beyond hospital discharge, allowing evaluation of outcomes across the full continuum of trauma care.

He serves as Chair of the Orthopaedic Surgery Specialty Committee for the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma and holds multiple roles within the Orthopaedic Trauma Association. He is a specialty consultant for the Michigan Trauma Quality Improvement Program and serves on the statewide working group developing Regional Medical Operations Coordination Centers (RMOCCs). Through these roles, he works to improve the quality and value of trauma care at both the state and national levels.

Dr. Oliphant received his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine and completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at Wayne State University–Detroit Medical Center and Saint Louis University Hospital. He completed a fellowship in orthopaedic traumatology at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland. He subsequently earned a Healthcare Executive MBA from the Paul Merage School of Business at the University of California, Irvine, and a Master of Science in Health and Health Care Research from the University of Michigan.
