Michigan Maternal Health Survey

About

CHRT’s Michigan Maternal Health Survey (MMHS) is the first comprehensive survey in Michigan solely focused on collecting state-specific information on the maternal health crisis. The first iteration of this survey will act as a follow-up to MDHHS’ PRAMS Survey. The MMHS is different from PRAMS as it will focus more on the health and well-being of the birthing parent or mom as opposed to the baby. The MMHS will also survey parents whose baby is about 9 months old, collecting information on topics that parents may experience within the first year after birth.

Despite the urgency of the maternal health crisis in Michigan, there is a lack of coordinated, culturally relevant statewide research. The MMHS addresses this gap by collecting robust, statewide data that is centered around understanding systemic challenges in maternal health and shifting away from individual blame.

The survey was developed in a collaborative nature by CHRT staff and an advisory board made up of maternal health experts across the state. The MMHS goes beyond topics that are commonly asked to take a snapshot of both the social and physical health landscape affecting a diverse range of families in Michigan.

Once the MMHS survey is complete, aggregate and nonidentifiable data will be shared publicly for the use of individuals, advocacy organizations, policy makers, and health care systems. By producing and disseminating actionable data for public use and policy development, the MMHS is an important part of the work to reduce maternal health disparities in Michigan.

CHRT is pleased to share the Michigan Maternal Health Survey data.
