Matthew Criado-Cano

Legislative Director , Luke Meerman, House

Matt Criado-Cano serves as the legislative director for State Representative Luke Meerman. In this role, Criado-Cano manages the legislative portfolio for the representative, guiding policy through the legislative process and developing ideas into actionable legislation.

Criado-Cano has broad experience on staff in the House of Representatives, drafting policy proposals and securing funding for needs in the representative’s district. In 2024, Criado-Cano oversaw the passage of Public Act 263, which established the School Safety and Mental Health Commission. Criado-Cano has a strong understanding of the legislative process and legislative strategy, building support for proposals among stakeholders and grassroots advocates. Currently, Criado-Cano is the lead staffer on the House Oversight Subcommittee on the Child Welfare System, where he identifies issues affecting Michigan’s most vulnerable children and coordinates committee testimony.

Criado-Cano holds a bachelor’s degree in international relations from Grand Valley State University.
