Andrea LaFontaine
Executive Director , Michigan Trails & Greenways Alliance
Andrea LaFontaine is executive director of the Michigan Trails and Greenways Alliance (MTGA). She holds strategic and operational responsibility for the organization’s staff, programs, expansion, and mission execution. MTGA is a statewide non-profit that serves as the voice for non-motorized trail users, helping people build, connect, and promote trails for a healthier and more prosperous Michigan.
LaFontaine currently serves as the Griffin Endowed Chair in American Government at Central Michigan University. As chair, LaFontaine teaches two university courses and hosts community forums on topics related to Michigan government and policies.
Before working with the Michigan Trails and Greenways Alliance, LaFontaine spent two years in the executive division of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, acting as the Southeast Michigan policy Advisor and assisting the Iron Belle Trail team.
Prior to that, LaFontaine served six years in the Michigan House of Representatives, representing District 32, covering Northern Macomb and portions of St Clair County. During her tenure in the legislature, LaFontaine served on multiple policy committees and was appointed chairwoman of the House Natural Resource Committee for four years.
LaFontaine earned her bachelor’s and master’s of public administration degrees from Central Michigan University.
