Ben Kauffman
Policy advisor , Michigan Senate
Ben Kauffman serves as a policy advisor in the Michigan Senate. He began his career in the legislature in 2014 as a constituent relations aide for the assistant majority floor leader in the House of Representatives. He has since served as legislative aide in the Senate, legislative director in the House of Representatives, and as district director for the Senate majority leader. He joined the Senate Majority Policy Office as a policy advisor in 2021 and continues the role now in the minority policy office, having advised members and staff on issues related to families, seniors, and veteran’s affairs, local government, and the department of health and human services budget with a focus on human services and child welfare.
Kauffman’s current role involves helping others in the legislature understand bills in specific issue areas. The health and human services budget and child welfare issues in the housing and human services committee are two of his special areas of focus.
Kauffman holds a bachelor’s degree in politics from Hillsdale College.
