Maribel Santana
Community Health Worker , Detroit Health Department
Maribel Santana is a certified community health worker and a community lead advocate at the Detroit Health Department’s (DHD) lead prevention and intervention program. Santana is responsible for contacting the parents of children that are affected by lead poisoning. By providing lead education, she gives parents the knowledge they need to help their children eliminate the lead from their bodies and to recognize the different lead hazards in a home environment. By engaging with the families and providing education and resources, Santana and her team ensure that these children have an opportunity to thrive and to be healthy.
Prior to working at the DHD, Santana was a legal assistant at a Detroit law firm. She researched case law, prepared pleadings, and planned appearances for the attorneys at the law firm. She also translated for non-English speaking families.
