The Michigan Physician Survey explores the perspective of one of the most important stakeholder groups in health care: primary care providers.
Michigan physicians are asked to describe their patient and practice characteristics, to indicate their capacity for taking on new patients, and to provide their views on barriers to patient care, recent policy changes, and more.
In addition to tracking trends, each survey features “hot topic” questions such as views on opioid prescribing policies, physician burnout, SDOH screening, and Medicaid work requirements.
Detailed analyses of the survey data (read about the survey methodology) have informed many publications, presentations and media interviews that have:
- Illuminated the capacity of Michigan physicians to accept new patients, including patients with Medicaid coverage, prior to the implementation of the Healthy Michigan Plan;
- Highlighted changes in patient and payer characteristics since national and state Medicaid expansion;
- Explored the evolution of primary care teams and electronic health record maintenance at physician practices across the state; and
- Led to important policy recommendations.
Michigan Physician Survey findings have also been highlighted in Crain’s Detroit Business, Michigan Radio, Interlochen Public Radio, and other media outlets.
